Crop Circles

July 1st, 1993 2 comments

Sometime back in ’93, a load of crop circles appeared in a field very near to my house. Neither myself, nor my cronies at the time, have any idea how they got there. Aliens? That’s the most likely thing.

On July 1st 1993, the following story appeared in the Stafford Post.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the fields… By Kathryn Ellison
Wierd and wonderful freaks of nature, UFOs, signs from beyond or just another hoax? Thats the question baffling locals since Stafford’s first crop circle appeared last Thursday. The circles, in fields opposite the University, were spotted by a woman out walking her dog. But local crop circle enthusiast John Watkins has his doubts about the Stafford spectacle. “The circle is in green corn, wheras they are normally found in mature golden corn,” said John. “And the circles are usually pressed down like a rosette, but they are rather rough and uneven with this one. “It could be that the students up to a prank have done it with a piece of string, but these things are interesting phenomenon and should not be dismissed out of hand.” One local who rang to say that he could see the circles from his window said: “They don’t look very supernatural to me, I could have done better myself!”

The “woman” out walking her dog, and the sceptical local were one and the same.
Step forward Mr. Jon Wilkinson (wearing a white t-shirt in the above photos).
For the record… I’m the one in black in the photos, wearing pretty much the same clobber as I did to work today.
