After two years of wrestling with Thingamablog, it has got to the point that correcting the spelling in a post requires uploading about 5mb of files. So I’ve given up on it an gone over to WordPress.
Hopefully this will be easier to work with. Already it looks nicer.
Happy New Year, and all that rot.

Tony
I am not Tony Blues.
Tony Blues , real name Tony Ariosta, is from San Diego and grew up in a blues family playing guitar from the age 10. His website is tonyblues.com. (Update: that domain is dead. find him now here).
Previously I’ve had a petty little rant about Microsoft and Christians stealing “my” name for their internet based projects, but not this time.
Why? Well partly because I like the songs he’s recorded and put on his site, and partly because he looks like a scary, bearded, mentalist:

What do Microsoft and Christians have in common?
They’ve stolen my name.
Exhibit A: The Microsoft Blews Project.
and if that isn’t bad enough…
Exhibit B: Blews.Network = 50-state Christian network of city blogs+news
Hmm. And it gets worse… Back in ’99 I registered blews.net for 10 years. And some god-botherers have poached it.
How? The hosting company I was with back then went tits-up and I never noticed. Bugger.
Today, while searching for pictures of Tony Gubba (for an animation which will appear soon), I stumbled upon a list of ethnic slurs on wikipedia. It truly is fascinating stuff.
Did you know that the Austrailians referred to the Viet Cong as “Nigel”, rather than “Charlie”? (I was a PFC on a search patrol, hunting Nigel down. It was in the jungle wars of ’65.)
“Eskimo” is offensive?
“Honky” was derived from an African-American pronunciation of “hunky”, the disparaging term for a Hungarian laborer?
And finally, that “Gubba” is an Aboriginal pejorative term for white people? (not just the sandy haired clowns).
Project Galactic Guide – I wrote several articles for this. If you do a search for “Blews”“, I’m sure that you’ll find them. Oh, actually, here they all are:
