Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll

October 16th, 2011 No comments

The late Ian Dury once postulated that:

Sex and drugs and rock and roll, Is all my brain and body need

And from this we can assume:

Need = Sex + Drugs + Rock + Roll

But, as the band Argent (not Kiss, no matter what their fan’s think) informed us:

God Gave Rock And Roll To You

As there is no God (my opinion, possibly not yours), the alleged deity could not possibly provide neither Rock, nor Roll. Therefore they cannot exist in this context. Hence:

Need = Sex + Drugs +0 + 0

Thus

Need = Sex + Drugs

Which seems a pretty solid mathematical proof for shagging and taking drugs.

As Mick Shrimpton, the former fictional drummer of Spinal Tap once said:

As long as there’s, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

My Soul is Dying

November 17th, 2010 No comments

One of the most annoying things about my life is that many years ago I was able to write software. It was something I gave up about 12 years ago.

Before that, however, I had coded some good things:

I contributed to the Linux kernel, and did some work on the networking code.
Some of that code is used in most home wireless routers now.

It makes me feel slightly ill to think about how much data is passing through my virtual hands.

New Year, New Template

December 31st, 2008 No comments

After two years of wrestling with Thingamablog, it has got to the point that correcting the spelling in a post requires uploading about 5mb of files. So I’ve given up on it an gone over to WordPress.

Hopefully this will be easier to work with. Already it looks nicer.

Happy New Year, and all that rot.

Tony Blues

September 24th, 2008 No comments

I am not Tony Blues.

Tony Blues , real name Tony Ariosta, is from San Diego and grew up in a blues family playing guitar from the age 10. His website is tonyblues.com. (Update: that domain is dead. find him now here).

Previously I’ve had a petty little rant about Microsoft and Christians stealing “my” name for their internet based projects, but not this time.

Why? Well partly because I like the songs he’s recorded and put on his site, and partly because he looks like a scary, bearded, mentalist:

What do Microsoft and Christians have in common?

What do Microsoft and Christians have in common?

They’ve stolen my name.

Exhibit A: The Microsoft Blews Project.

and if that isn’t bad enough…

Exhibit B: Blews.Network = 50-state Christian network of city blogs+news

Hmm. And it gets worse… Back in ’99 I registered blews.net for 10 years. And some god-botherers have poached it.

How? The hosting company I was with back then went tits-up and I never noticed. Bugger.
